About the College

We are THE original college at SIU and that means we have nearly 150 years of experience in shaping the educators who make a difference in the world. With our expanded role in human services, we continue our mission, helping students explore possibilities, fulfill dreams and change lives.

We are a leader in off-campus and online education. You can achieve your career goals on campus or in classrooms, agencies, military bases and organizations around the world.

Our programs and initiatives continually earn national recognition and our students enjoy the best of both worlds--strong academic programs combined with hands-on field experience in real work settings. Your research and hands-on study possibilities are boundless, even as an undergraduate. Learn at our world-renowned Center for Autism Spectrum Disordersour acclaimed Rehabilitation Institute and numerous other facilities located right on campus.

We are a diverse college, offering more than 28 majors. With undergraduate, master's, doctoral and certification programs, we can take you as far as you want to go. 

New degree responds to need

A new bachelor’s degree program in Behavior Analysis and Therapy offered by Southern Illinois University Carbondale will be the only such program in Illinois and one of only two in the nation.

Leader in grant funding

U.S. News and World Report rankings

Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s graduate programs earned national recognition in U.S. News & World Report’s “2016 Best Graduate Schools” guide. The College of Education and Human Services moved up from 77 to 59 in the rankings. This marks the second year in a row the college has improved its ranking.
