Welcome to the School Counseling Track! We prepare dynamic, multiculturally sensitive school counselors to work as educational leaders that advocate for student growth and development as well as systemic change. The CACREP accredited program prepares school counselors for Illinois licensure to work as certified school counselors in the kindergarten through high school levels. Our training is founded on a strength based comprehensive school counseling model that is easily adapted to the diverse needs of rural or urban school communities. Our program works collaboratively with the surrounding communities and partners with local schools to foster an understanding of the economically, socially, and culturally diverse needs of rural and town based educational settings. Our students may enroll full time or part time, however, the program concludes with a full time 600 hour internship experience in the local schools.
Illinois no longer requires a teaching degree to obtain school counseling licensure. If you are passionate about helping students and believe you can be a dynamic change agent, we look forward to receiving your application. If you already have a counseling degree, but not in school counseling, we also have a licensure path for you as well. The path will differ based on if your counseling degree was from a CACREP institution.
If you are passionate about helping students and believe you can be a dynamic change agent, we look forward to receiving your application. If you have questions concerning admission to the school counseling track, you may contact Dr. Neffisatu Dambo at firstname.lastname@example.org.
