CACREP Vital Statistics Summary

 Master's Programs

The master’s programs in Counselor Education at SIU Carbondale have achieved an excellent record for student achievement and graduate placement.  For the 2013/2014 academic year, the total enrollment for the three master’s programs was 24:  9 in Community Counseling, 10 in School Counseling, and 5 in Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling.  Of the admitted students, 92.3% completed the programs in the expected time period.  The programs had 15 graduates during the same period:  1 in Community Counseling, 13 in School Counseling, and 2 in Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling. This cohort was consistent with program traditions and achieved high scores and high pass rates on licensing examinations.  During this academic year the graduates of the Community Counseling and Marriage, Couple and Family Counseling programs combined for a pass rate of 92% on the NCE examination.  School Counseling graduates achieved a 100% rate on the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) examination for school counselors.  As has been typical of program graduates, each member of this cohort found employment related to their degree training.  

In the 2014/2015 academic year the total enrollment for the three master’s programs was 18: 7 in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, 7 in School Counseling, and 4 Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling. Of the students admitted to the fall 2012 cohort, 73% completed the programs in the expected three year time period.  The programs had 20 graduates during the same period: 5 in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, 13 in School Counseling, and 2 in Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling.  Our graduates have consistently achieved high scores and high pass rates on licensing examinations.  During this academic year the graduates of the Community Counseling and Marriage, Couple and Family Counseling programs combined for a pass rate of 82% on the NCE examination.  School Counseling graduates achieved a 100% rate on the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) examination for school counselor licensure.  Our graduates also have been highly successful in obtaining employment in positions related to their degree training.  For Clinical Mental Health and Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling graduates the employment rate was: 100%.  School Counselor graduates also had a 100% employment rate.

 Ph.D. Program

For academic year 2013/2014, there were 8 active students enrolled in the Ph.D. program.  The program completion rate within the expected time period was 80%.  During this academic year there were 4 graduates.  These graduate all found employment in the area for which they were trained, that is, as faculty in academic institutions.

During the 2014/2015 academic year, there were 8 active students enrolled in the Ph.D. program in Counselor Education and Supervision. The program completion rate within the expected time period was 80%.  During this academic year there were three graduates.  All three graduates found employment in the area for which they was trained, that is, as a faculty member in an academic institution.
