About Dr. Vogler
Dr. Vogler was the Chair and Professor of Kinesiology at SIU Carbondale since July, 2011. He was the former Chairperson and Graduate Program Director of the Department of Kinesiology and Health Education at SIU Edwardsville and has served on the faculties of University of Colorado, Arizona State University, and Illinois State University.
Dr. Vogler’s research interests were in the area of physical education teaching and teacher education. More specifically he used mixed methods approaches to study the effectiveness of schooling both children with and without disability in the same physical education setting. Dr. Vogler has authored over 25 refereed publications, 100 presentations, and $100,000 in funded grants.
Dr. Vogler’s teaching duties were primarily at the undergraduate level and include coursework required for physical education teacher education undergraduate majors. Courses he has taught at SIUC include: Elementary (KIN 314) and Adapted (KIN 305) physical education. Throughout his career, he has also taught Research Methods and Statistics, Research Writing, Introduction to Kinesiology (graduate), Motor Learning, Motor Development, Fitness of Walking/Jogging, Secondary Physical Education, and Instructional Strategies of Physical Education.
Dr. Vogler has served his profession as President of the North American Federation of Adapted Physical Activity (NAFAPA), Vice President and Treasurer of the National Consortium for Individuals with Disability (NCPERID), and other various state and regional professional positions. He has reviewed for multiple journals, and currently serves on the editorial board of the Adapted Physical Activity Quarterly. In addition, Dr. Vogler has served on various departmental (e.g., Personnel), college (e.g., Dean’s Executive and Advisory), and university committees (e.g., Intercollegiate Athletics Advisory and Chair - Institutional Review Board- IRB) throughout his career.
