Week of June 5-12-2017

#SalukiFriday is upon us again: remember to wear your Saluki gear on Fridays!

  1. ) There is a growing group of Saluki Spirit Liaisons  represent their Dept, unit, campus office, student group, community business, civic group, etc. There isn't a lot involved with the Liaison job - basically just forwarding on information received from Dr. Anton on a weekly basis. The idea is to get Liaisons for all campus and community groups, so that when the Announcements come through, they are coming from someone whose name is familiar to those they are sending them to - basically a grass-roots movement. If you know of anyone who might be interested in serving in this role, please have them contact Dr. Anton.

  2. #SalukiFriday is upon us again: remember to wear your Saluki gear on Fridays! Also, send pics of your group(s) to Dr. Anton, as well as Randy Johnson at 710: randyj@seventen.com Photos will be featured in future Saluki Spirit Announcements as well as on 710's Facebook and Twitter platforms.

  3. This week on #SalukiFriday we are visiting the Harvey Welch Jr. Scholarship Golf Scramble at Hickory Ridge Golf Course in Carbondale. Those pictures will be up on Friday on the "SIUC Department of Kinesiology" Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/SIUC-Department-of-Kinesiology-201366063240550/posts_to_page/) and on our NEW Twitter page: https://twitter.com/SalukiSpirit Swing by and give us a follow @SalukiSpirit

The winner of the Facebook Poll on the Dept. of Kinesiology page for the pics taken with the Saluki Green Action Team at the Innovation and Sustainability HUB last week is at the end of the Announcements

  5. Welcome to Carbondale sign on Hwy 13Interim Chancellor Colwell was on hand to christen the new. The sign denotes Carbondale as the home of Southern Illinois University and is thus a shining display of Saluki Spirit! 7) Saluki Baseball placed 3 team members on the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team. Greg Lambert (Management) Ryan Netemeyer (Mechanical Engineering) Ryan Sabo (Finance 4.0!) Congrats guys!

  6. Well done, DawgsFive Saluki student-athletes earned their respective sport's Missouri Valley Conference Elite 18 Award, given to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA competing at the finals site at each of the MVC's 18 team championships.

    Polina Dozortseva (Marketing, Women's Tennis)
Shaye Harre (Animal Science, Women’s Softball)
Bryn Handley (Behavior Analysis and Therapy, Women's Swimming and Diving)
    Brooke Cusumano (Accountancy, Women's Golf)
Josh Maier (Computer Science, Men's Outdoor Track and Field)

Handley, Dozortseva and Maier won the award for the second-straight season and Cusumano won the award for the second time in her career, as she last won following the 2014-15 season. SIU's five honorees are the most of any Valley school this year and are the most in a calendar year in program history! It also ties the Salukis for the most honorees in one year in MVC history! Well done, Dawgs!

GO DAWGS! #WEAREALLSALUKIS

Innovation and Sustainability HUBWINNER OF THIS WEEK'S FACEBOOK PICTURE POLL: This week's "action event" for the Saluki Green Action Team is conservation of energy by turning off lights in empty rooms. On #SalukiFriday at the Innovation and Sustainability HUB at the SIUC Student Center, we thought we would take it a step further by unplugging a few things. Concerned that he'll lose some important work on his computer, Saluki Green Action Team member Andrew Aaflaq tries to slow our roll...
