Dr. Jowett Hirst is an Assistant Professor in the Behavior Analysis and Therapy Program in the Rehabilitation Institute at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. She holds a B.A. in Psychology (2006) and M.S. in Applied Behavior Analysis (2008) from Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, FL and a Ph.D. in Behavioral Psychology (2014) from the University of Kansas where she studied under the advisement of Dr. Claudia L. Dozier. Dr. Jowett Hirst has over 15 years of clinical experience working with children with and without developmental disabilities in homes, clinics, and school settings. In addition, she has presented at various state, regional, and national conferences and published in various journals such as the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, Education and Treatment of Children, and The Analysis of Verbal Behavior.

Dr. Jowett Hirst’s primary research interests include children's preference for interventions, parent training, variables that influence the effectiveness of treatment for pediatric feeding difficulties, and toilet training. She currently collaborates with a variety of local child development centers and preschools as well as oversees in-clinic services on campus.
