A native to Southern Illinois, Sara Murphy is a 2007 graduate of Southern Illinois University Carbondale. She received a Bachelor of Liberal Arts degree in Political Science with an emphasis in international relations and humanitarian aid issues. Sara was recognized as an outstanding American college student in the 2001-2002 edition of the National Dean’s List while attending John A Logan College in Carterville, IL and was also a 2001 inductee to Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Sara is currently working towards her Masters of Social Work at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, emphasizing on Health/Mental Health. She will receive her MSW in May 2015.
Sara began working for Lutheran Social Services of Illinois in 2007. Sara has worked as a licensed Child Welfare Specialist in both the Foster Care and Intact Family Preservation programs, and most recently as the Lifebook Specialist for the Southern region. Sara’s passion is child welfare and protection, and she plans to remain active in the local child welfare community after receiving her MSW, eventually earning clinical licensure. Sara lives with her two children in Carbondale, IL.
