The master's degree in counseling is designed to develop students' potential as professional counselors and provide specialization in three distinct areas: (1) community counseling; (2) school counseling; and (3) marital, couple, and family counseling.
All three emphases are accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) and adequately prepare students for certification and/or initial licensure in their specialty area. School counseling is also approved by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).
