WED studnet receives degree

Rosemarie Howerton graduated December 19, 2015 with a degree in Workforce Education and Development, realizing a dream that was decades in the making. Read more about her story from SIU News and WPSD-TV.


WED personnel receive recognition

Five members of the Department of Workforce Education and Development received recognition for their years of service at SIU Carbondale during a ceremony held December 7, 2015. The recipients include: Dr. Connie Plessman, 20 years; Dr. Terre Eversden, 15 years; Mrs. Christine Davis, 15 years; Dr. Cynthia Sims, 10 years; and Ms. Carrie Smith, 10 years. Drs. Plessman and Eversden were unable to attend.

COEHS receives high ranking

The College of Education and Human Services receives high ranking on the list of "2016 Best Graduate Schools" by U.S. News and World Report.


Dr. Barbara Hagler

Dr. Barbara Hagler was recently named the 2015 National Business Education Association Outstanding Collegiate Teacher of the Year. Click here for more information.
Dr. Hagler is an associate professor and director of undergraduate programs.

Dr. Jason Tanner

Jason Tanner, WED Ph.D. Program graduate, was chosen as the Illinois Association for Career and Technical Education (IACTE) Postsecondary Teacher of the Year at the organization’s annual conference. Dr. Tanner is a professor of business at John A. Logan College, Carterville, IL. Click here for more information.


Teacher of the year

Steven Elza, a graduate of the Department of Workforce Education and Development, has been named Teacher of the Year by the Illinois Department of Education. The announcement was made at the 40th annual Those Who Excel/Illinois Teacher of the Year banquet in Normal, Illinois. Elza teaches automotive technology at William Fremd High School in Palatine, Illinois. Click here for more information.
