Work Experience and Occupational Training

WED OCDP students whose first term was Spring 2013 or earlier

Two courses in Workforce Education and Development are designed to provide course credit for past work experience or occupational study in accredited and selected other programs.

WED 258 Work Experience: Credit granted for past work experience while employed in business, industry, labor, government service or military organizations.  Credit determined by departmental evaluation. Prerequisite: Completion of 12 semester hours of Workforce Education and Development courses with C or better.

WED 259 Occupational Training: Credit for documented occupational study in accredited and selected other programs. Credit determined by departmental evaluation. Prerequisite: Completion of 12 semester hours of Workforce Education and Development courses with C or better.

Purpose

This e-project is designed to consolidate the record of your work experience and occupational training (called a Work and Technical Training History) for evaluation by the WED 258/WED 259 evaluator. The evaluation will lead to recognition of your achievement and enable the SIU campus staff (Registrar's Office and Transfer Student Services) to award academic credit for your occupational experience and training in WED 258 Work Experience and/or WED 259 Occupational Training. The WED 258/WED 259 packet that you assemble will consist of the source documents for obtaining your WED 258 and/or WED 259 credit. A minimum of 44 semester hours of WED 258, WED 259, and/or transferred technical course work is required to earn the Bachelor of Science degree in Workforce Education and Development.

Objective

To produce a simple exposition of your work experience and occupational training that will enable campus staff to understand key elements of your background and so that they may readily award appropriate credit.

Requirements

You will create a WED 258/WED 259 packet and submit it to your local site. You may submit your packet electronically or in paper. You should keep a hard copy of your packet or an electronic backup. Follow the Work Experience and Occupational Training Packet assembly and submission procedures in the Overview of Project web page.

To receive credit for WED 258 and WED 259, you must submit a packet consisting of documentation of your work experience and occupational training. The course syllabus, overview, and guidelines provide the necessary information and examples to assist you in compiling this information. The WED 258/259 packet you compile will lead to recognition of your achievement and enable the Southern Illinois University Carbondale campus staff to award academic credit for your work experience and occupational training. The packet that you assemble will be the source documents for obtaining WED 258 and WED 259 credit.

The packet you submit will include the following:

  1. The Transmittal Worksheet. Follow the instructions and guidelines for assembling your WED 258/WED 259 packet.
  2. All supporting documents as prescribed by your individual Transmittal Worksheet. You do not need to include copies of any transcripts that you requested to be sent to SIUC Transfer Student Services.
  3. Verfication letter

If you fail to follow the instructions, your WED 258/WED 259 packet will be returned and you will need to resubmit your packet when it is complete. If all of your prior work is not listed on the SIUC transcript, your WED 258/WED 259 packet will not be evaluated. You may resubmit your revised packet or submit additional documents at which time they will be evaluated. You will not receive credit until you do so.

Without WED 258, WED 259, and/or transferred course work credit, you will be unable to graduate. The documentation of your work experience and training to meet the Technical Training component of your WED degree is your responsibility. Do not depend on the office staff to collect your personal information. You must collect all the necessary documents and submit them to:
