We have six programs and the Teacher Education Program within the School of Education. You can choose from a variety of undergraduate, master’s and doctoral degree programs.
Child and Family Services The Child and Family Services program is designed for students who prefer to work with children in non-public school settings, such as Head Start or child care, or with children and families through an agency setting.
Early Childhood The SIU Early Childhood major with a specialization in Preschool/Primary leads to the State of Illinois Professional Educator’s License (PEL) with an endorsement in Early Childhood, which qualifies you to teach children 0-8 years of age in state-approved public school settings.
Educational Administration and Higher Education prepares graduates to be leaders in schools, colleges, universities and public and private agencies. We provide the knowledge, theory, research and practical applications for today’s teachers and administrators.
Elementary Education The SIU Elementary Education program prepares students to teach children in grades one through six. The program will prepare students to teach in a variety of classroom settings – from self-contained classrooms to departmentalized and team teaching situations.
Special Education The School of Education offers an undergraduate major in special education, which entitles the student for the State of Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with the Learning Behavior Specialist I endorsement. The special education major prepares candidates to teach students with disabilities, ages K to 21 receiving services along the full continuum of service delivery options. Our Special Education - Learning Behavior Specialist I program is fully approved by the Illinois State Board of Education. It is also nationally recognized by the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) meeting the professional teacher standards for the preparation of special educators.
