The Southern Region Early Childhood Programs is an Illinois State Board of Education Early Childhood Block Grant program that provides birth to five developmentally appropriate and early childhood best practices to children and families of southern Illinois. The Prevention Initiative (PI) 0-3 grant offers children and families educational experiences in their homes, community settings, and classrooms at the Child Development Laboratories (CDL) on the SIU campus. The Preschool For All (PFA) 3-5 grant provides children learning opportunities in classrooms in local public school districts and CDL. Programming includes high-quality educational experiences for children in engaging learning environments that offer home to school connections, parental supports, and community resources. These programs are made possible through the extensive collaboration between SIU, public school districts, community colleges, public libraries, and area early childhood programs. Many children and families in the area begin their educational experiences with the Southern Region Early Childhood Programs. It is the place where the first steps to the education experience begins for the youngest of learners.
