What is required of me?

  • Take, and pass, the Illinois Test of Basic Skills prior to application.
  • Submit completed SIUC application to SIUC Admission Office. (https://admissions.siu.edu/)
  • Submit Teacher Education Program (TEP) application to the College of Education and Human Services Student Services Office (453-2354) by February 1st or June 1st for a fall semester start. Applications must be complete and include your transcripts and a copy of your Basic Skills Test Score.
  • Commit to taking classes over a two-year period as they are sequenced in blocks.
  • Submit a plan for completion of required liberal arts and concentration courses to your SIUC Elementary Education academic advisor by February 1st or June 1st for a fall semester start (students will be assisted with this by an SIUC Education advisor).
  • Participate fully in school-based experiences.
  • Earn a C or better in all courses.
  • Maintain an overall GPA (including community college as well as SIUC grades) of 2.75 and a major GPA (includes C&I cohort coursework) of at least 2.75.
  • Complete a total of 60 credit hours of course work from a four-year institution.
