The Social Science Education program is designed to provide professionals with advanced knowledge and skills in the area of social science.

Study may focus on improving classroom teaching and/or study of such areas as global education, values education, citizenship education, critical thinking, and ethnic studies.  We also offer a number of specializations, concentrations and instruction you’ll use in the classroom and beyond.

The Social Science Education major has been officially suspended. Students interested in teaching social science classes at the high school level can apply for the History Education major. Visit the SIU Department of History webpage for more information.
