International Partnerships: Literacy Education
October 13, 2020
Dr. Lavern Byfield recently completed two virtual workshops with almost 200 educators across the Bahamas, focused on literacy strategies for 21st century preschool classrooms (September 15, and September 22, 2020). Consultation continues with the Ministry of Education to revamp the preschool literacy curriculum.
Dr. Byfield has been working with Bahamian teachers since summer 2019. Her collaboration began Spring 2019 when she was invited to facilitate a workshop for Bahamian educators. The Bahamian educators visited Carbondale for one week, June 2019, and met with the former Dean of the College of Education and Human Services and toured local schools and daycare centers including Rainbow’s End Child Development Center and Robin’s Nest Learning Center.
The virtual workshops allow Dr. Byfield and SIU to continue to support these educators and this international community partnership.
