The School of Human Sciences offers programs designed to provide students with the evidenced-based knowledge and skills needed to enhance human health and quality of life.  Through integrated experiential education, research and outreach, we advance scientific discovery and the implementation of ideas to improve population health and prepare the next generation of globally minded human science professionals who strive to expand human potential.

The expertise and interests of our nationally and internationally recognized faculty are diverse and reflect public health, exercise/movement science, nutrition, recreation professions, sport management, and social work perspectives that promote health and wellness in our society.

SIU Eta Sigma Gamm studentsOn April 5, 2022, four Public Health students were officially initiated into the Eta Sigma Gamma (ESG) Alpha Alpha Chapter at SIU.
ESG is a professional National Health Education Honorary dedicated to promoting higher quality of life, promoting excellence in service and advocacy, education, and research in the health education profession. Fanta Saidou (Chapter President), Celena Slowick (Chapter Vice-President) and Dr. Justin McDaniel (Chapter Advisor) facilitated the ceremony. Sandra Schwartz, SIH Community Health Coordinator served as the Guest Speaker.

Justin McDaniel - Scholar of the YearScholar of the Year Award
Justin McDaniel is an associate professor in public health with a cross appointment in the department of neurology at the SIU School of Medicine. Dr. McDaniel is the recipient of this year's College of Health and Human Sciences Scholar of the Year award. He received a plaque at the college's award ceremony on April 30.

Bobbi Knapp - Women of Distinction Award2021 Faculty and Staff Excellence Award
