edTPA Scores and Pass Rates
2017-2018 Assessment Period
The edTPA is an evidence-based performance assessment of teacher candidate effectiveness, developed by Stanford University, which is required for all teacher candidates to pass before they apply for licensure to teach in the state of Illinois. The assessment is widely used throughout the United States as a capstone assessment to measure effectiveness in the classroom by focusing on student learning.
Since Fall 2015, candidates from the College of Education and Human Services' Teacher Education Programs have a 100% pass rate on the edTPA in all subject areas, except Special Education, which has a pass rate of 97% (31/32), and Physical Education, which has a pass rate of 93% (14/15).
In the past 3 semesters, SIU candidates excelled by surpassing the state and national average scores in most subject areas. Below are the 2017-2018 data. The subject areas that surpass the state and national averages during this latest data cycle are agriculture, performing arts, English, special education, history/social science, world languages, technology and engineering education, and early childhood education.
