How to Apply

Benchmarks

Here is a breakdown of the benchmarks once you are accepted into the TEP program (download PDF version): 

During EDUC 301: Semester 1 of TEP

  • Construct Gateway template in EDUC 301.
  • Note: artifacts for Gateway Portfolio are identified in all EDUC courses and in some of the courses in your major.
  • Complete Teacher Safety Education Module on line.
  • Sign up for EDUC 302 clinical placement with your Academic Advisor.
  • Review your Degree Works Audit.
  • Check your ELIS account for accurate contact information.

During EDUC 302: Semester 2

  • Continue uploading artifacts in your Gateway Portfolio.
  • Review your Degree Works Audit.
  • Sign up for EDUC 303 (EDUC 400 for special education majors) clinical placement with your Academic Advisor.

During EDUC 303 (or EDUC 400): Semester 3

  • Submit Student Teaching Application.
  • Sign up for student teaching (401) with your Academic Advisor.
  • Take the Content Area Test (register at: il.nesinc.com )
  • Expect email (in SIU email account) with specific directions and dates for:
    • TB test
    • Signed Physical Exam Form
    • Mandated Reporter Training
  • Achieve a 2.75 major GPA, and earn a C or above on all EDUC and content-area coursework.
  • Ensure ALL transfer credits reflect on your official transcript.
  • Deliver Gateway Portfolio defense.
  • Apply for graduation.
  • Attend student teaching orientation.

During EDUC 401 (student teaching): Final Semester

  • Attend Student Teacher seminars.
  • Submit edTPA – required for licensure.
  • Attend licensure training session.

Complete the licensure process according to licensure training instructions.
