Superintendent Endorsement Admission Requirements
STAGE 1
APPLICATION DOCUMENTS
- A complete SIUC Graduate School Application
- Educational Administration and Higher Education Program Data Form
- All undergraduate and graduate college transcripts except from SIU Carbondale
- At least a minimum of a 3.25 graduate grade point average calculated on coursework completed for a master’s degree or its equivalent
- Valid and current Illinois Professional Educator License: Endorsed in General Administrative, Principal, CSBO, or Director of Special Education
- A copy (or ELIS screenshot) showing a passing score on the Basic Skills Test or other exam required by the state of Illinois for educator preparation and licensure
- On school letterhead, documentation stipulating at least 2 (two) years of full-time administrative or supervisory experience in a public district or nonpublic school recognized in accordance with 23 Ill. Admin Code 425 (Voluntary Registration and Recognition of Nonpublic Schools). The experience must be as general administrative, principal, director of special education, or chief school business official
- Three letters of recommendation from persons familiar with applicant professionally
STAGE 2
INTERVIEW AND WRITING SAMPLE
- Face-to-Face interview with no fewer than two full-time program faculty members
- Complete on-site written response to a scenario presented by the interviewers
STAGE 3
PORTFOLIO
- Complete portfolio with all of documents required under in accordance with 23 Ill. Admin Code 33 (Programs for the Preparation of Superintendents in Illinois), which includes:
- Resume
- Evaluation of candidate’s administrative abilities (copy of their evaluation or letter from supervisor), by supervisor, that attests to district and school improvement.
- Description of the impact the candidate has had on classroom, school, district, or constituents served
- Analysis of school or district data that describes how the data were used to inform instructional planning and implementation, including an explanation of what standards were addressed, the academic achievement or school improvement outcomes, and steps taken when expected outcomes did not occur and demonstrates a candidate's analytical ability [how the results were used to improve student learning]
- Description of the candidate work with families and/or community groups
- Describe and show evidence of your involvement on school or district committees of leadership roles; curriculum development; student assessment; and other initiatives
Applications for the Superintendent Endorsement program are due by May 20.
