Instructions: All students must be enrolled for the term in which they are applying, meet credit hour requirements, and class standing as designated in the scholarship criteria. When applying for the various departmental scholarships in the College of Education and Human Services, please submit your applications and supporting documents to the Department Chair at the addresses listed under each category. Submit the College-wide COEHS Scholarship application to the Dean’s Office in Wham 115.

Council of 100 Scholarship + -
Arthur L. and Sammye L. Aikman Educational Council of 100 Scholarships The scholarships will be open to all applicants with the following qualifications, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, age or veteran status: Disabilities Scholarship a. Shall be given to a student who is disabled as established by the Illinois Department of Rehabilitation Service (IDORS). b. Resides in one of the 33 southern counties of Illinois served by the Educational Council of 100. (Alexander, Clay, Clinton, Crawford, Edwards, Effingham, Fayette, Franklin, Gallatin, Hamilton, Hardin, Jackson, Jasper, Jefferson, Johnson, Lawrence, Madison, Marion, Massac, Monroe, Perry, Pope, Pulaski, Randolph, Richland, St. Clair, Saline, Union, Wabash, Washington, Wayne, White, and Williamson) c. At a minimum, has completed two semesters of course work with a GPA of 3.0 and, at a maximum, who is in a graduate program. d. Has a financial need as established by IDORS. e. Is a citizen of the United States. Prospective Teacher Scholarship a. Has been admitted to the Teacher Education Program of the College of Education and Human services. b. Resides in one of the 33 southern counties of Illinois served by the Educational Council of 100. (Alexander, Clay, Clinton, Crawford, Edwards, Effingham, Fayette, Franklin, Gallatin, Hamilton, Hardin, Jackson, Jasper, Jefferson, Johnson, Lawrence, Madison, Marion, Massac, Monroe, Perry, Pope, Pulaski, Randolph, Richland, St. Clair, Saline, Union, Wabash, Washington, Wayne, White, and Williamson) c. earned a GPA of 3.5 or above. d. Preference shall be given to an atypical student: 28 years of age or older. e. Is a citizen of the United States.
The scholarship will be open to all applicants with the following qualifications, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, age or veteran status: 1) Preference will be given to graduates of Pope County or Meridian High Schools. 2) Preference will be given to those who plan to enroll in the College of Education to prepare for a teaching career. 3) Preference will be given to those with a 3.5 or higher GPA.
The recipient must be a graduate from a high school in Williamson County, Illinois, admitted to the undergraduate teacher education program, and in good standing as a junior or senior in the Elementary Education program.
This scholarship(s) is given to a student currently majoring in the College of Education who is an African American. Preference shall be given to a student who is majoring in an academic program in the College of Education and must have completed 57 semester hours before applying for the award.
Presented to a student currently majoring in the College of Education whose mother or father was a graduate from a program within the College of Education
This scholarship is awarded to students in the College of Education and Human Services who are transferring from a community college in Illinois. Financial need is given preference.
College of Education and Human Services Undergraduate Scholarship Fund Scholarship will open to all applicants with the following qualifications, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, nation of origin, disability, age, or veteran status: 1) Recipient(s) must have a declared major in the College of Education and Human Services. 2) Must be an undergraduate student.
Presented to a returning senior with the highest SIU Carbondale grade point average.
Preference shall be given to a student who is eligible to complete student teaching during the following academic year.
This scholarship will be awarded to an entering freshman or other undergraduate student in the College of Education. Any income credited to the account in excess of the amount awarded in any one fiscal year shall be invested, but retained in the income fund until needed as awards. The financial need of the student will be considered but will not be the single most important factor. The recipient should be of high moral character and integrity. All other qualifications being equal, preference shall be given to a student who plans to enter teaching as a career.
Annual Award to a Johnston City High School Graduate, enrolled at SIUC and who has indicated a desire to become a teacher. The annual recipient of this award is to be announced during commencement exercises at the Johnston City High School.
Open to all applicants with the following qualifications, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, age or veteran status: 1) The recipient shall be an undergraduate working toward a teaching degree in the College of Education and Human Services at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. 2) The recipient must demonstrate financial need.
The Glenn "Abe" Martin Student Award will be open to all applicants with the following qualifications, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, age or veteran status: 1) the award is open to all juniors majoring in the College of Education and Human Services. Preference shall be given to those who began their undergraduate work at SIUC. 2) Students are to apply their junior year. The Award will be announced at Honors Day and it will be awarded during the second semester of the students' senior year. 3) Applicants must submit a resume and two essays: A. The student's Leadership Philosophy. B. The student's Professional Goals. Note: Each department chair may nominate no more than two students for the Award annually.
The Helen Nelson Davis Scholarship will be open to all applicants with the following qualifications, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, age or veteran status: 1. Has lived in Alexander and/or Pulaski counties (Illinois). 2. Is majoring in Education and preparing for a teaching career. 3. High School GPA of 3.0 or higher. Preference shall be given to graduates of Egyptian High School.
Liberal Arts-Education Scholarship Fund+ -
TThis scholarship will be awarded to a recipient in the College of Education for the 13-14 academic year. Preference given to an African American undergraduate who: a) is enrolled for major studies in the College of Education; b) is a participant in a varsity athletic program or in service to the University through extra-curricular activities; c) is showing overall excellence in academic endeavors and in a varsity athletic program or University extra-curricular activities.
Income from this fund shall be used for an annual award for an upper division undergraduate student in an approved program of Teacher Education in the College of Education. The financial need of the student must be documented and his/her parent's annual adjusted gross income shall not exceed $20,000. The recipient must be a junior or senior in an approved teacher education program undergraduate major with a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 (B).
Scholarship will be open to all applicants regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, age or veteran status: 1) Must be a graduate of DuQuoin HS, Pinckneyville HS, or Tamaroa Grade School. 2) Must be enrolled at SIUC's College of Education and Human Services and majoring in teaching, counseling or administration. 3) Must exhibit financial need. 4) Must include at least one letter of reference with the application which attests to the applicant's scholarship, dependability, and attitude. In the event that the expendable fund balance is less than $500 at the time of the award, the donors shall be contacted to determine if they wish to add to the expendable fund to insure a $500 award.
For undergraduates majoring in education. The financial need of the student will be considered but will not be the single most important factor.
To support appropriately identified students in our collegiate teacher education program.
The recipient of this scholarship award shall be selected through the University's normal selection process for scholarship recipients. The financial need of the student may be considered in the naming of the recipient. Preference shall be given to a student who; a) is a Kentucky or Illinois resident only; b) is a full-time or part-time enrolled junior, senior or graduate student including one who is participating in cooperative graduate programs or study abroad; c) has declared a major or minor in the College of Education; d) possesses at least a 2.75 grade point average on a 4.0 system and gives evidence of being a well-rounded student who has demonstrated an enthusiastic interest in school and community activities and an awareness of universal human values which transcend national and cultural parameters.
Scholarship will be open to all applicants with the following qualifications, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, age or veteran status: 1) Preference will be given to an Education major. 2) Sophomore (preferred) or junior standing. 3) 2.75-3.00 GPA.
Cornerstone Scholarship Fund+ -
The recipient will be an entering freshman from an Illinois high school who is in the top 10% of his/her graduating class and who: a) is enrolled as a full-time student; b) possesses outstanding ACT or SAT scores; c) maintains a cumulative grade point average of 3.4 or higher; d) maintains good academic standing each semester he/she attends.
Scholarship will be open to all applicants with the following qualifications, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, disability, age or veteran status. 1. Scholarship will be available to students who graduated from or attended John A. Logan Community College, Rend Lake Community College, Shawnee Community College, or Southeastern Illinois College and who attend or are planning to attend SIUC. 2. Recipient(s) must be enrolled in a major within the College of Education. 3. The student(s) awarded this scholarship shall have demonstrated successful academic performance by having at least an overall grade point average of 3.0 or the equivalent of a B. 4. When possible, a minimum of two awards should be made. When two or more are awarded in a year, they shall be (to the extent possible) equally divided between underrepresented minority and non-minority students and between male and female students 5. Financial need should be considered and students who show a background of overcoming adverse personal condition of abuse, neglect and/or abandonment shall be given top priority. 6. A student who held the scholarship in a previous year shall be given preference with all others being equal.
Scholarship will be open to all applicants with the following qualifications, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, age or veteran status: 1) Must be education majors preparing for a teaching career. 2) Will apply in their junior year and receive the award in the senior year. 3) Must be a graduate from a Hamilton, Saline, Gallatin or White County, Illinois secondary school. 4) Preference will be given to students who demonstrate financial need. 5) Preference will be given to candidates who possess a total University GPA between 2.75 and 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. 6) Preference will be given to those who have demonstrated service and leadership activities in their home communities and/or College or University.
This scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior in the College of Education and Human Services with a high GPA.
Preference shall be given to a student who has financial need and is majoring in Early Childhood (pre-school/primary) Education.
A recipient will be a woman beginning her junior year who plans to be a teacher and who is a graduate of a high school in the counties covered by Beta Delta Chapter: Franklin, Jackson, Perry, Randolph, and Williamson.
Education Scholarship Fund+ -
Used for an annual award for an upper division undergraduate student in the College of Education. The recipient will be announced at Honors Day. The recipient must be a native-born American and a person with documented integrity. He/she must be a junior in an approved teacher education program undergraduate major with aspirations of becoming an administrator in education. A minimum overall GPA of 3.0 (B) is required.
Education Endowed Scholarship Fund+ -
For an annual award for an upper division undergraduate student in an approved program of Teacher Education in the College of Education. Preference shall be given to a student who was born in Williamson, Jackson, Franklin or Saline County in Illinois. The recipient must be a junior or senior in an approved teacher education program undergraduate majoring in the College of Education. The recipient(s) should be involved in the student work program at SIUC. The financial need of the recipient shall be considered but shall not be the single most important factor in the selection process.
Preference shall be given to a student who a)maintains a 3.0 GPA or higher; b)has been involved in extra-curricular activities and has work experiences related to education; c)has faculty and other personal recommendations. Consideration to be given to applicants with University School connections; d) submits a 50-100 word statement of personal commitment to a career in education.
Preference shall be given to a junior or senior in the College of Education from Wayne County on the basis of need rather than academic achievement.
